Albert van Lawick van Pabst – Founder & Managing Director
Albert van Pabst founded SDS Ventures in 2011, with the main goal to connect financial investment with the growth of sustainable technologies in China and Asia. In this capacity he has set up and co-founded 3 sustainable technology ventures in China. In addition, he has been advising over 7 projects and financial transactions, including 4 fundraising mandates which involved complex financial, legal and fiscal structuring.
Prior to founding SDS Ventures, Albert van Pabst, served for over 7 years with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Albert was responsible at the Netherlands Embassy in Beijing for more than 4 years for the financial and energy sector relationships between the Netherlands and China, working with and advising both large and small companies on the Chinese market.
Among other things, Albert was personally responsible for drafting, negotiating and implementing several economic co-operation agreements between the Chinese and the Netherlands Government.
Prior to his job at The Foreign Ministry, Albert worked for over 4 years in investment banking at UBS Warburg and Fortis Mees Pierson. He passed the Financial Services Authority (FSA) exam for financial advisory services in London in 1999. At UBS Warburg he worked at the general M&A department, and was the financial analyst at several large and highly complex transactions, including the buyout of VNU Malmberg by 3i. At Fortis Mees Pierson, Albert worked among others on controlled auctions in wind energy sector and the sale of a Government –owned construction company.
Albert graduated in 1999 from Utrecht University, specializing in Corporate Law and Energy Law. He wrote his thesis on the separation of the Netherlands electricity grid under new EU directives. After briefly working with Stibbe Lawfirm in Amsterdam, he received a Fulbright Scholarship from the American Government to study for a post-graduate degree in at the University of Pennsylvania Lawschool (LL.M.).
Albert earned a dual executive MBA-degree at Tsinghua and INSEAD from 2008 – 2010. Albert wrote an extensive thesis on vertical integration in the Chinese PV Solar market.
Cor Saris – Partner
Cor Saris joined SDS Ventures in 2014. Cor has in excess of 28 years of senior managerial experience in the consumer electronics and automotive industries.
He has held several executive positions at Philips Electronics across Brazil, U.S.A, Germany, Taiwan, and the Netherlands.
From 2008 to 2014, Cor has been CEO of Lite-On Mobile, manufacturer of components for mobile phones based in Finland and China. In this capacity he has built extensive experience in implementing resource efficient technologies across industrial supply chains. Cor continues to act as Chairman of PLDS Corporation.
At SDS Cor operates as partner out of the European office in the Netherlands with a focus on supporting the European side of cross border business ventures. With his combined experience in emerging markets and technology, his focus is general management, business strategy, supply chain management and technology assessment.
Cor graduated in 1984 from Eindhoven University of Technology with an MSc degree in Chemistry.
Jessie Liu Ph.D – Business Development Manager
Jessie Liu joined SDS Ventures in early 2015. Jessie has 16 years of experience in resource efficient technology development in China. Prior to joining SDS she was working in managerial positions at Solaria Corporation, Ysolars Corporation and Chongqing Baotong Optical Fiber Co., Ltd.
Her experience includes leading technical design processes for new products, implementation of market entry for innovative industrial technology, managing cross-border M&A transactions and carrying out market research.
Jessie graduated from Chongqing University (1996 – 2000) with a Bachelors degree in Optoelectrical Engineering and subsequently a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering (focused on Optoelectronics & Semiconductors). In 2008 she earned a Ph.D in Materials Engineering with a specialization in Microelectronics at Louisiana Tech University in the US. From 2012 – 2014 Jessie successfully completed the MBA-program at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai.
Christoper Liu – Coating Technology Operations Manager
Prior to joining SDS Ventures, Chris completed internships at Wilmar International, Bank of Gansu and The Agricultural Bank of China.
His experience includes operations management, technology assessment, working capital management and in structuring cross-border and local JV investment
Lanzhou University – Bachelor degree in Economics
Sunshine Li joined SDS Ventures in early 2015. She has more than 10 years of work experience in Administration areas, in particular in the field of Joint Ventures and Wholly-Owned Foreign Entity (WOFE) companies.
Prior to joining SDS she worked as an office manager in HESS AG (China), a leading company in the international lighting market.
Up to now, Sunshine Li is in charge of office and human resources management, as well as other relevant projects within SDS Ventures.
